You know that we at Energy Talk Radio care deeply about people’s health and protecting them from environmental toxins, including radiation.  These days, there’s a heated discussion brewing in cyberspace about the link between cancer and cell phone radiation.  I’d like to invite you to weigh on this topic via our Facebook page as I feel it is of urgent importance.
Here’s the question: How do you feel about the World Health Organization’s statement that cell phone radiation is potentially harmful to humans, especially children?
Check out this MRI Scan of an adult brain, a 10-year old’s brain and a 5-year old’s brain after using a cell phone:

Wait…Or haven’t you heard yet? Just in case you have not heard… let me fill you in with the news.
On May 31, 2011 the World Health Organization (WHO), together with the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) classified radiofrequency electromagnetic fields as possibly carcinogenic to humans (Group 2B), based on an increased risk for glioma, a malignant type of brain cancer, associated with wireless phone use. Additionally, the American Cancer Society (ACS) has listed cell phones on their list of possible cancer-causing substances due to the fact that cell phones give off radio-frequency (RF) waves and may increase the risk of brain tumors or other tumors in the head and neck area.
If you’re anything like me or the rest of the civilized world, as soon as you hear this news you’re in the corner holding your iPhone in your hands, rocking back and forth murmuring “say it ain’t so.”  Could it really be? “Could Cell Phone Radiation Really be Toxic  to My Health?”
Personally, I didn’t take the news lightly — but at first I didn’t want to believe that using my beloved iPhone could possibly jeopardize my brain health (me being in shock).  I’m sure you won’t want to believe it either… unfortunately, if you choose to sweep this information under the rug and ignore it, the dangers aren’t going to go away.
Before other smartphone users start to do a little happy dance, let me burst your bubble — Blackberry, Droid, and Windows phones are not immune  from cell phone EMFs either, unfortunately.  It’s all cell phones.
So what can you do? Bet you’re ready for the “Relief” part of this story. If you are, you can read the complete story here.

Embracing Ease – Sex, Love and Spirit

by Kypris Aster Drake

In part one and two of this series, I shared with you about my perception of what true love is, and about safety and trust, the foundation of true love. In this blog, I’d like to share with you about my experience of the next step up on the true love pyramid: freedom and ease.

Freedom is where it begins, freedom within yourself to let go of worry and expectation about your relationships. The trouble with worry is that it isn’t productive. All it does is use up a lot of my energy and make me miserable in the present while I worry about the future. Expectation is no better, leading me to feel resentment about anything someone does that isn’t what I had wanted them to do. But the worst part for me is the suffering that goes along with worry and expectation, this whole swampy boggy place where I can wind up torturing myself about how the other person is behaving.

What I notice is two things: 1.. I feel better when I don’t worry 2. Worrying about the relationship usually makes the relationship worse, not better.

Sometimes to let go I imagine my thoughts are like little biodegradable balloons, floating off into the atmosphere until they snag on something and pop. Other times, when a worry is too big for that method, I write it on a piece of paper and give it over to Spirit. Lately I like to insert that piece of paper into the Godseye dangling from my rearview mirror. The Godseye is a simple weaving that I made this year on my birthday to remind me that I am asking Spirit to help me manifest EASE in my life. It’s been about a month, and so far every problem or worry I have put there has resolved itself within a week, with a lot of EASE. Once that resolution happens, I burn the paper, offering thanks to Spirit for bringing an easy and serene solution.

Once I put those pieces of paper in there, or send those balloons off into the sky, I do my best to remember to breathe to bring myself fully into the present moment, where everything is ok. I do my best to appreciate the beauty of a sunset or the sound of birds singing outside my window. I meditate on Spirit’s plan and surrendering to that so I can let go. And then I get my mind off of the situation by playing. I play games, read books, dance, hula hoop. I cultivate a state of mind where I am a little child again. And then I realize that rather than focusing on THEM, I need to focus on my own life, and my own happiness. I remember that other people are not responsible for my happiness, That is MY job.

If I can do all this, really let go, then tremendous ease comes into the relationship. I no longer have any worry or expectations about that person that are getting in the way of my connection with them. Now admittedly some connections will be more easeful than others, because there is also that little issue of compatibility. It’s hard to be in relationship with someone if you don’t want the same things from that relationship. It is also hard to play with someone if you don’t like to play in the same ways. And it’s incredibly hard to communicate effectively if you don’t have the same communication styles. For me, part of true love is both partners being able to talk about things that matter to them and to be listened to and understood. But it is also about sharing time together doing things that feel good and refresh both of us.

In the end it boils down to this. If I want Ease in my relationships, then I have to cultivate it within myself. Just as trust in relationship grows from cultivating an inner safety, ease comes from cultivating inner freedom. To create an easy and playful relationship with another, you have to create an easy and playful relationship with yourself. If you have ease, and you have trust, then you are ready to open your hearts to unconditional love with each other.

Beat a Major Killer – Inflammation!

The Secret Killer - Inflammation

Inflammation Kills - Get Rid of It!

On February 23rd, 2004 Time Magazine released the magazine cover entitled “The Secret Killer.” The story linked to this cover is about inflammation and how it can affect everything that happens in our body from Alzheimer’s disease, colon cancer, heart attacks right down to aging.
An excerpt from the article explains “Suddenly, inflammation has become one of the hottest areas of medical research. Hardly a week goes by without the publication of yet another study uncovering a new way that chronic inflammation does harm to the body. It destabilizes cholesterol deposits in the coronary arteries, leading to heart attacks and potentially even strokes. It chews up nerve cells in the brains of Alzheimer’s victims. It may even foster the proliferation of abnormal cells and facilitate their transformation into cancer. In other words, chronic inflammation may be the engine that drives many of the most feared illnesses of middle and old age.
This concept is so intriguing because it suggests a new and possibly much simpler way of warding off disease. Instead of different treatments for, say, heart disease, Alzheimer’s and colon cancer, there might be a single, inflammation-reducing remedy that would prevent all three.”
The article continues to describe how they fight against inflammation is continuing to expand and scientific links between major illness and disease are being exposed. Even back then the research on inflammation and illness was starting to explode; this new view of inflammation is changing the way some scientists do medical research. “Virtually our entire R.-and-D. effort is [now] focused on inflammation and cancer,” says Dr. Robert Tepper, president of research and development at Millennium Pharmaceuticals in Cambridge, Mass. In medical schools across the U.S., cardiologists, rheumatologists, oncologists, allergists and neurologists are all suddenly talking to one another — and they’re discovering that they’re looking at the same thing. The speed with which researchers are jumping on the inflammation bandwagon is breathtaking. Just a few years ago, “nobody was interested in this stuff,” says Dr. Paul Ridker, a cardiologist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital who has done some of the groundbreaking work in the area. “Now the whole field of inflammation research is about to explode.”
Based on the explosive inflammation movement that continues today we are excited about the initial findings outlined below with regard to Pearlcium and inflammation.
The above photo is an infrared image of Dr. Rulin Xiu taken on December 17th, 2009 at the A4M Anti-aging Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada. The photo was taken using the medical infrared imaging equipment known as Spectron IR. The Spectron IR is a state of the art, patent-pending infrared heat processing imaging camera that is used by hospitals and doctors to do adjunctive screening and diagnosing for breast cancer, peripheral vascular disease, neuromusculoskeletal disorders, extracranial, cerebral and facial vascular disease, thyroid gland abnormalities, neoplastic conditions, metabolic conditions, and inflammatory conditions because it can help locate abnormal heat patterns in the body.

Real Inflammation Pictures

Real Inflammation Pictures

The photo on the left (before) clearly shows general and typical inflammation throughout Dr. Rulin Xiu’s facial area. The amount of inflammation is clearly presented by the color of the image, red=maximum heat and inflammation present while black=cool and normal cell structure. Note the amount of red in the image on the left showing inflammation centered largely on the forehead, eyes and on the mouth. There are large concentrations of nominal inflammation surrounding the cheeks and eye sockets.
In the picture on the right (taken 50 minutes later and after 2 capsules of Pearlcium, straight in the mouth for quick absorption into the blood) you will notice a dramatic decrease in color. Notice the forehead area has turned largely orange in color and the cheeks, eye sockets and mouth have in some cases decreased in color by as much as 3 levels. This shows a dramatic decrease in the amount of present inflammation detected by the infrared imagine machine after taking Pearlcium.
Mary Anne Crandall, B.S.M.S is a specialist with Spectron IR and is well versed in the field of inflammation. She was stunned and excited about the results and even documented the fact that the temperature in Dr. Rulin Xiu’ eye area decreased by 1 degree between the first and second photo. Dr. Rulin Xiu and the Pearlcium team are very excited by the fact that we are discussing and setting out the terms of a long-term clinical study in conjunction with Spectron IR. Bernie Siegel broke new ground with his monumental book Love, Medicine, and Miracles, in which he explored the powerful role the mind can play in fighting illness. Sharing stories of seriously ill patients who survived against the odds and those who seemed to give in to their own deaths, the book inspired countless readers to consider the possibilities of thinking themselves well. Siegel believed–and still does–that the power to heal comes from the human mind through will, determination, and love. Over the last 20 years, his philosophy and advice have led many physicians and other healthcare professionals to help patients participate in and influence their own recovery.

Many readers of Love, Medicine, and Miracles have wondered what comes next. What happened to patients who followed Siegel’s advice? In Faith, Hope, and Healing, Siegel shares the inspiring stories of people who have experienced cancer and found deeper faith, hope, joy, and healing through the process. Grouped into sections on faith, hope, and healing, these stories and Siegel’s insightful commentaries will encourage and help readers to develop an attitude and personality that survivors share, while also offering myriad ways to get through difficult times and discover the gifts that illness can bring into a person’s life. In this book, Siegel reveals what these people’s experiences tell us about our common strengths and humanity and how to live an authentic, fulfilling life.

In 1995, Sam took ownership of a successful company that his grandfather had run for more than 30 years. It seemed like a lucky break, until the warehouse that stored and assembled his products burned to the ground. Just about everything Sam owned, including his pride, went up in flames. No longer able to pay his bills, he took a night job delivering newspapers, and eventually worked as a janitor. For two years, he lived on the borrowed floor space of friends and family. Depression seemed to grab the best of Sam, until he made an amazing discovery– a discovery that he now travels America sharing.

“One lesson I learned early on is that when you doubt yourself, you defeat yourself. I had failed big and lost everything,” said Sam. “When you fail big, you experience fear, indecision, and doubt. I was down and out in my attitude.”

But one day, a friend invited Sam to have a cup of coffee and said these words which he never forgot: “Sam, you don’t have a hard knock life problem, you have an attitude problem.”

At first, Sam was offended by this statement. People are very protective of their attitudes; Sam’s was miserable and he was recruiting. He wasn’t open to change.
“But, as I thought about it,” Sam says, “I realized he was right. My attitude was off the charts and it was defeating me. In order for my life to get better, I needed to get better, and the starting point to getting better was with my attitude.”
With almost no money or dignity, Sam had little more to lose. So he thought about where he was, and where he wanted to be. He learned the value of being grateful for the small things. He wanted his life to be filled with meaning and purpose.
“Being a janitor and working nights was tough. But it was work and it helped,” said Sam. “I learned to appreciate my job, but I also knew there was a different calling in my heart. And you cannot succeed where there is no passion or heart. What happened next helped me to discover the gift in my failure. There are hidden opportunities in our adversities if we are open to embracing them.”
Sam began to volunteer working with teens, and was asked to teach Sunday school. He agreed only reluctantly, because of his huge fear of public speaking. The fear of speaking was so intense that he almost canceled the first day he was to teach – three times! He kept calling the church and hanging up on the secretary.

It was a rough start, but the message of encouragement came through strongly. Soon, teens were asking Sam to speak at their clubs and schools, and his calling was revealed. About a year and half later, he was speaking for the Billy Graham Evangelical Association, and eventually to audiences as large as 75,000.

“And to think I would have missed the opportunity had I not been open to changing my attitude, acting on new choices and believing I was born with purpose,” said Sam. “And the truth to this story is, we all are born with purpose. We all face adversities daily that knock the kick out of us, but our attitude is always a choice. And in my personal and professional opinion, it the most important choice. You can’t achieve true greatness with a mediocre attitude. You can’t lead others with an average attitude. You can’t have a successful relationship with a defeatist attitude. You have to get this right, and your perception will change, thereby affecting your results and outcome.”
Adding a chalk art presentation created a unique connection to Sam’s audience. “The combination of music and watching nothing become something before their eyes is amazing,” states Sam. “To top it off, when I do the lightshow, the picture comes to life. It’s one of those things we don’t put in my demos, but when you see it live – WOW! You’d think the group was watching a forth of July show!”
Around the office, Sam often refers to his program as being A.D.D. friendly. People want to be captivated, challenged and inspired. He puts a lot of effort into preparing for each speech he gives, handwriting them before every talk. “It’s my way of mentally preparing to give my all,” states Sam. “I am well over 1,300 hand-written speeches – no joke!”
Today, Sam gives close to 100 speeches a year and loves it! He has a passion and purpose to drive him. He has authored 16 books, all of which have a strong emphasis on attitude.
“To be regarded as an Authority on Attitude is a privilege because I see so much power in our attitude,” states Sam. “If someone asks me to describe what I do, I tell them that I work with organizations that want to rekindle enthusiasm and improve the quality of performance, and I do it by creating an experience of inspiration through art, humor and attitude! It’s a mouthful, but it packs a lot of impact.”
“One great aspect of my speaking career thus far is my audiences know that I am not all show or high on myself. I don’t claim to be a know it all, but by the time the program is over, they recognize that I am a credible expert on Attitude – as it applies to life, business and relationships. The experience I try to create is one of sincerity and authenticity, and that’s important to me. I think a huge plus is that my program is not boring. Ask anyone! I say that confidently, because I am A.D.D. and it’s hard for me to listen to a lot of speakers. I have to have some sparkle behind the information. So that’s what I try to create. I keep everyone on the edge of their seats with humor, art, stories and material that they can relate to.”

Supervisor Bevan Dufty for Mayor of San Francisco
was elected in December of 2002 and re-elected in November 2007 and represents San Francisco’s District 8. District 8 encompasses Noe Valley, The Castro, Glen Park, Diamond Heights, Duboce Triangle, Dolores Park & San Jose / Guerrero, and Buena Vista Heights neighborhoods.
Voted “Most Radical” by his classmates at Menlo-Atherton High School, Supervisor Dufty describes his professional career as moving up and down the political food chain.
At 21, he worked on Capitol Hill in the most powerful legislative arena in the world. Decades later, as Director of Neighborhood Services at the Mayor’s office in San Francisco, he came to realize that it is really local government that has the power to change lives in a tangible way….by honoring the public trust, by being timely, responsive, respectful and by solving one problem at a time.
Supervisor Dufty learned that a little time devoted to little things can make a big difference. He encouraged Mayor Brown to launch the Open Door Program, a Saturday morning forum that provided an opportunity for individual San Franciscans to talk privately with the mayor about their individual problems. That program alone gave thousands of people personal access to their mayor in a way that never occurred before. And countless problems were solved.
On a community level he has continued to work in close partnership with neighborhood and merchant groups throughout District 8. His years in Neighborhood Services taught him that any problem, large or small, can be addressed when you bring together concerned neighbors, merchants, community organizations and City Departments.
On a political level, he is a member of the Alice B. Toklas, Raoul Wallenberg and Robert F. Kennedy Democratic Clubs. Bevan is also a Founder of San Francisco’s LGBT Community Center and a member of San Francisco Front Runner’s. Bevan is the proud papa to his daughter, Sidney Maely Goldfader-Dufty, who is almost three.
His early exposure to social activism, ethnic vibrancy and soulful music gave him a unique perspective on life and instilled in him the importance of giving back to the community. It laid the foundation for the person Bevan is today.
Peace begins with me.
Dr Hew Len points out that that we always need to remember the very old saying: “Peace begins with me.” He says that of there is to be peace on earth; it needs to begin individually with each one of us.
Dr Hew Len says that Ho’oponopono is about looking within ourselves for debts, errors or blocks in our subconscious minds that replay as problems, judgments, putdowns and all kinds of other problems.
The blocks are within.
Dr Hew Len makes the pint that Ho’oponopono is about saying to The Divine within us (The Self): “I am sorry, please forgive me for whatever is going on in me, that I experience the world in me this way.
Taking 100% responsibility.
Dr Hew Len says that when we take 100% responsibility for whatever we experience in our lives, we can then go onto the next step where we say: “I am sorry, and not only am I sorry, but please forgive me for what ever is going on in me.
By saying sorry and taking 100% responsibility for whatever is going on in our lives, we are in essence saying to The Divine: “I am 100% responsible, the problem is within me, and I would like You to convert whatever that memory, debt, block, error or problem is to nothing.”
And when The Divinity converts the block or memory to nothing, we return to back to our original state which is Zero or clarity.
Dr Hew Len says that only when we have clarity, can The Divinity provide us with insight, inspiration and whatever is perfect for us.

I used to think everyone knew something that I didn’t. They, like I, weren’t aware of what it was, and they didn’t seem to notice that I was without it, but to me the difference was painful. Life’s “little things” seemed second nature to others, whereas I felt I had to fake that I knew what was going on. I felt awkwardly different, which led to an overwhelming desire to question the things that most people seem to take for granted. A burning desire to know what this life is about, which I have now largely satisfied, making the price of my sensed alienation very small in comparison.

For me, in the beginning, my search for answers generally centered around the issues of life, death, and the powers of the mind, but within these there were many other topics like time, space, heaven, hell, hypnosis, UFO’s, ghost stories, ESP, the dream state, reincarnation, etc. I had arrived at several basic conclusions for each, but they were just hunches. Without knowing how I knew, for example, at the age of 12 or 13 I remember telling my mother that space and time couldn’t really exist, and that neither could hell, or a God that wasn’t One with all things, living and inanimate. I reasoned that He was not just inside Us all, but that no part of our experience could ever be anything less than 100% God.

I didn’t realize it at the time but my desire to “know” had put me on an inner path of understanding, or better my thinking was beginning to attract like thinking. As if my questions were slowly answering themselves, opening my eyes to the insights that are latent in us all. As I walked this path the questions I dwelled upon were somehow answered. I was never sure just when the answers had arrived. I only sensed, sometime after “illumination”, that an intuitive knowing had been imparted when I wasn’t paying close attention.

The first time I remember physically pursuing my fascinations with life’s mysteries was at the age of 14. Hypnosis was an exciting and bizarre affair I thought, so I checked some books out from my high school’s library, and bought a few short “how to” ones of my own. In very little time I was successfully hypnotizing some of the younger neighborhood kids who looked to me with some authority, but it all became very boring when I ran out of ideas of what to say or do once my subjects had gone under. My favorite tricks like having their fingers go numb so that their big brothers could prick them with pins, telling them that they could no longer open their eyes, or having them blurt out nonsense when given post-hypnotic triggers, lost their appeal. No one had bad habits to break, and I had no success with anyone my age or older.

Exploring hypnosis I gleaned several breakthroughs. First that the process worked, I saw the mind’s influence over the body and its thoughts, and second, while rummaging in the school library I discovered The Search for Bridey Murphy, by Morey Bernstein. It blew my 9th grade mind. I couldn’t understand why everyone didn’t have a copy, or why the teachers and adults I knew hadn’t heard of it. Surely, I thought, this was revolutionary material that should be studied and queried by the greatest minds of the world. But as far as I knew that hadn’t happened since Bridey’s publication in 1956. Nevertheless, the paranormal events and conditions described in Bridey made perfect sense to me, paralleling many of my own inner suspicions, and opening doors in my thinking that enabled me to ponder even greater questions.

Although raised a church-going Catholic I found many of their teachings, rules and rituals contradictory, and more importantly, inconsistent with the answers I had intuitively arrived at. I’ve always believed, for example, that each of us is really doing our best given our own understandings, therefore if judgment were to be passed on a life, and I don’t believe it is, sin would only ever be regarded as an honest “mistake” due to deep misunderstandings. Not a demerit system that leads to eternal damnation. Wouldn’t a loving Father, I reasoned, have more compassion than to seek revenge on his comparatively feeble children who are temporarily blinded by the illusions they’ve created? Even human parents are far more understanding of their own flesh and blood than the “Father” as portrayed in most religions. Sin, and its past and present connotations, must have been a term derived by man I concluded, not an understanding, all-knowing God.

I’ve always needed explanations that made sense, and just as importantly, I believed they were attainable. I came to deduce, and still believe, that Jesus was here to tell us, as others have, that we are all “children of God”, that the things he did, we all can do, and that there are no sins, no evil, no hell, other than what exists in our own minds. He came to Earth to be a living example of these teachings, to show a better way to his fellow travelers at a dark time in history when limiting beliefs were so ingrained into the population they no longer sought, nor could they conceive of, greater thinking.

Despite my early quest for hypnosis books, I’ve never been a “reader”. Since attending college I’ve probably averaged only 1-2 new books a year. So it’s ironic that over my life, several books, or authors, have helped define my own thoughts, and therefore my life, in the most profound ways.

With few exceptions, these books were introduced to me by my mother, who has always been an avid “reader” and who I’ve always been very close to. I was 15 when, as a budding tennis hopeful on the state juniors’ circuit, she gave me The Inner Game of Tennis, W. Timothy Gallwey and Psycho-Cybernetics, Maxwell Maltz. Both of which improved my game immeasurably, and further piqued my interest in the powers of the mind over our lives. I haven’t read either since the year I carried them everywhere, but I recall that their gist was to unleash the power of imagination so as to influence the course you’d like your game, or life, to take.

During my freshman year at the University of Florida the pitch in my desire for “understanding” was its greatest, overshadowing everything else I did or thought. For the entire year I dwelled daily on the meaning of life, and the mystery of death, but to no visible avail. Then, out of nowhere, Mom sent another book, The Silva Mind-Control Method, by Jose Silva. Once again I was pondering the untapped abilities of my mind, and felt a renewed excitement for the mysteries it contained. But before I had time to finish it another book arrived, the first in a series, that illuminated the darkest corners of my mind. Written with a clarity and depth unlike anything I’d ever read, it confirmed, without exception, my deepest feelings and intuitions about life. It put my abstract thoughts into words and filled the gaps inbetween. As I finished each I felt that my almost desperate searching was coming to an end. My questions were either answered, or by then seemed at least, very answerable. These books contained the “Seth Material” as dictated by the late Jane Roberts, 1929-1984, in Elmira, New York.

With my own inner search no longer lost in space I began to use and apply the understandings that were solidified by the Seth Material without any looking back. With the answers to my fundamental questions revealed, the focus of my life has become the application, or the living, of the truths I’ve found – a mighty tall, but rewarding, order. Today it’s through the pursuit of my goals and dreams that I learn my lessons and even greater secrets about life and myself.

As far as fun and meaning go in my life today, by most standards I’ve been doing pretty well. After graduating with a degree in accounting I joined the most prestigious of the then “Big Eight” accounting firms. Before long I was “selectively transferred” into their exclusive tax department (that’s a doozy of a story you can hear about in my audio recordings!), which led to my acceptance of a “tour of duty” in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. From Riyadh, I traveled extensively around the world, fulfilling a goal with uncanny accuracy, that I had written down less than 2 years earlier; in my travels I visited 17 countries, most in Africa, Asia and the Far East, and I remember being blown away by my surroundings one morning during breakfast at the Regent Hotel in Kowloon, overlooking the island of Hong Kong – realizing how I had visualized the exact same “picture”, hardly 24 months earlier, based on a glossy advertisement in a magazine like Architectural Digest.

When the tour in Riyadh was complete I chose to repatriate in Boston where I continued excelling in the firm’s international tax department. I stayed there for almost 2 years before deciding it was time to try some new challenges. To be closer to family I moved to Orlando, Florida, and from there I decided to pursue another dream, starting my own company. Only problem was… I had no idea what kind of company I wanted to own, or where to begin.

Within a few months I joined talents with those of my artistic brother and managerial mother, and we launched, from scratch, TUT, Totally Unique T-shirts. One million T-shirts later, I recorded my first audio program, Infinite Possibilities: The Art of Living Your Dreams, which has been a perennial best-seller since it was released in 2001. Since then, a quarter million CD sets have been sold and it’s blown the floodgates open in terms of new adventures. Among them, speaking engagements in 19 countries on 6 continents before tens of thousands of people; the creation of my ezine, “Notes from the Universe,” which is sent out 5 days a week to over 300,000 people in 189 countries; being featured in the bestselling book and DVD The Secret; and the number of new “sticks” I now have in the proverbial fire, including book deals in 7 languages and counting…. Sometimes it’s so overwhelming it keeps me awake at night, tossing and turning with excitement.

My understandings have helped as much in other areas of my life from relationships to material possessions, and they continue to grow with their own momentum. I’m still a student, but also my own teacher, and in this journey I’ve begun to realize that as much as I enjoy thinking and living my thoughts, I enjoy sharing them too… and learning from others… which I expect, is at least part of the reason, that our paths have crossed here and now, you and I.

Is divorce bad? We’ll see…

DSC01314I read this story on my radio show “Kim Hess Divorce Guru yesterday to demonstrate that sometimes something we judge as “bad”may not necessarily be so: “There is a Taoist story of an old farmer who had worked his crops for many years. One day his horse ran away. Upon hearing the news, his neighbors came to visit. “Such bad luck,” they said sympathetically. “We’ll see,” the farmer replied. The next morning the horse returned, bringing with it three other wild horses. “How wonderful,” the neighbors exclaimed. “We’ll see,” replied the old man. The following day, his son tried to ride one of the untamed horses, was thrown, and broke his leg. The neighbors again came to offer their sympathy on his misfortune. “We’ll see,” answered the farmer. The day after, military officials came to the village to draft young men into the army. Seeing that the son’s leg was broken, they passed him by. The neighbors congratulated the farmer on how well things had turned out. “We’ll see” said the farmer. When I first read this story I thought of my divorce as the horse. Better yet, my husband was the horse! When I split with him I thought that was bad. Then the next thing I know I have a successful career (radio show host/writer), a support group, and doing what I love while helping others. I next find out that my ex is in a relationship with the woman he was with during our marriage. That was bad. Then I realize that I no longer have to put up with his ego and his behaviour. She does. That was good. Then I am in a constant struggle with my ex over the divorce, child custody, and money. That was bad. Through the struggle I’ve realized how strong I am. That’s good. My point is when something “bad” comes around just say “We’ll see…” You might be surprised how the “bad” turns into “good!”

Your Opinion Is None Of My Business

Heart & Xmas TreeSo often I don’t accomplish something because I’m afraid of what someone will think.  I miss out on the beauty of life and the joy of creating useful and beautiful things and experiences for others and myself because I’m not minding my own business.  Really I should pay attention to my own thoughts and keeping them positive.  When I focus on that I see where I can be more empowered and empowering to others.  Today I will keep my nose out of other people’s opinions.  So, with a warm smile and love in my heart, I’ll leave you with this quote from a very wise person, “Your opinion of me is none of my business.”

Top 10 Reasons I Love Armageddon

Top 10 Reasons I Love Armageddon

After reading a book that was recommended to me recently, it brought up all these fears about the end of the world.  I was brought up Jehovah’s Witness and aside from the pain of having doors slammed in my face as a child, the worst pain was of constantly living in fear of God and the end of the World.  Well, as I lay in bed after reading this book, I decided I was going to flip this thing on it’s ear and I came up with the top ten reasons I love Armageddon:

10.  No More Taxes

 9.  No More Mondays

 8.  No More Dentist Visits

 7.  No More Fruitcake

 6.  No More DMV Lines

 5.  No More Thin Toilet Paper in Public Restrooms

 4.  No More Hemeroid Commercials

 3.  No More Lawyers

 2.  No More Telemarketers

And the Number One Reason I love Armageddon:

 1.  No More Prostate Exams!

I’ve found one of the best ways to make something less scary and take away it’s power is to look at it with my eyes wide open and laugh at it.  If you’d like to experience more inappropriate laughter, check out Monkey Minds on

Gross National Happiness

Buddhist monks on Norzim Lam

In November 2008, I had the opportunity to visit Bhutan as a volunteer with the Youth Development Fund, an NGO whose mission is to advance the needs of youth in this tiny Himalayan kingdom. I was delighted to discover education is free in Bhutan, even at the university level, and how well this country takes care of its young people, their “most precious resource.” For being such a strong First World nation like the US, we have a lot to learn from this developing southeast Asian nation, a country with a population smaller than my home city of San Francisco and no bigger than the state of Indiana. Their development goals put youth first and foremost, and after a few weeks there, I began to understand why.

For centuries, Bhutan had remained closed to the outside world due in part to their geographic remoteness, but developments have increasingly modernized some urban areas of the country. Progress had been slow for this mountain kingdom. The first paved roads were constructed in the 1960s, its only international airport opened in 1983, and it wasn’t until 1999 that television was first introduced. While progress has been moderately good, the Royal Government has adopted a very cautious approach to opening its borders in an effort to avoid the negative impact of tourism on the nation’s traditional culture, identity, and environment. Bhutan ranks among the most biodiverse countries in the world, with 72% of the country covered with forests and a government policy to maintain this figure at no less than 60%.

But it’s not just accessible education and lots of trees that makes this nation so unique. At its core is a government committed to building an economy that serves Bhutan’s culture based on Buddhist spiritual values. Known as Gross National Happiness, this concept is founded on sustainable development, preservation of cultural values, conservation, and good governance. It is a concept that affects even the youngest members of society, for in a nation’s children lie its hope for the future. When a country invests greatly in their young people, it always succeeds. When our children flourish, we create resourceful citizens of tomorrow who give back to their communities and make the world a better place for us all.

For now, I’ll leave you with this quote by Lee Iacocca:
“In a completely rational society, the best of us would aspire to be teachers and the rest of us would have to settle for something less, because passing civilization along from one generation to the next ought to be the highest honor and the highest responsibility anyone could have.”

Life Without Limitation – Unexpected Miracles

Armoire 024

There once was an average man who experienced an unexpected miracle. A miracle brought about out of the darkness of disease and death. One evening he sat in a chair watching his last hours of television, contemplating his mortality and planning his funeral. He was dying from AIDS. The doctors told him to arrange his affairs for his life would soon be at an end.

All of a sudden a ray of hope flickered across the screen. A special with Dr. Wayne Dyer was celebrating the benefits of the “AH” meditation. Dr. Dyer had been given this sound by Gurugi, a Tamil Siddha whose mission was to end suffering in the world. The dying man was very head strong and sensible in life and rarely opened his mind to things as nonsensical as a sound healing one’s body. However, something in his heart, mind and soul opened up. He knew it was not his time to pass on, that there was something more he was meant to do, so he went to his bedroom, put a pillow over his head to muffle the sound and started chanting this ancient mantra.

Against all odds, contrary to all medical opinion and beyond all imagination, the man healed. Not only did he thwart death, but he found new life beyond disease, discomfort, illusion, pain and suffering. He found a life of fulfillment, empowerment, spirituality and abundance. His life became a beacon of hope to many and he promised to share his gift with the world. He promised to be a light of hope and help end suffering.

Even though at times it doesn’t seem possible, that man was me, a person not unlike most who are lost in the illusion of life. Suffering and not able to see beyond popular belief and the pain that our beliefs cause. This book is about a practical way to transform those illusions and beliefs that no longer serve those suffering. Through this transformation a life of health, awareness, joy, peace, love and prosperity can developed, maintained and by doing so, each person can be a conduit for the divine and create a world beyond our wildest dreams!
